Mother’s Day is just around the corner (this Sunday). Try writing a letter to your mom telling her how much she means to you. What is special about her, what do you appreciate about her? You could also try a poem. How about an acrostic poem? Not sure what that is, here’s an example:

Mom

M-y mother is always a person I can talk to when I’m having a bad day

O-ther things don’t keep her from me

M-ust be the best mom in the world!

Happy Mother’s Day to all of you the mothers out there

Write a story about a baby animal finding a new friend. Who would it be? And how would they meet? Would they be the same animals or different, or maybe the friend isn’t an animal at all. Think about the fun the two new friends can have. Have fun writing!

Choose one baby animal to write a story about. Imagine that the baby animal has wandered away from it’s home. Write a story about the adventure the baby animal has finding it’s way back home. Try to include as much describing words as you can!

It is still a little cold and windy but spring is here! The snow is gone, the birds are chirping and the flowers are starting to peak out. Take some time to observe the beginning of spring. Smell the air, look and listen at all of the new activities on the ground and in the air. Then let that inspire your writing!

Try to write a haiku poem. A haiku poem is a traditional Japanese poem that consists of three lines. The first line has 5 syllables, the second line has 7 syllables and the third and last line has 5 syllables. If you can’t remember what a syllable is or how to count it, ask you mom or dad!

Remember, have fun with your writing!
