Imagine your ultimate camp. Think about three different things you would do there. Write about it!

Some ideas of how you could write about it are: You could write about planning the trip to go, you could write a brochure advertising your camp, you could write a letter to a friend imagining you are at the camp.

Have fun writing :)

Hello everyone,

Mother’s Day is just around the corner (this Sunday). Try writing a letter to your mom telling her how much she means to you. What is special about her, what do you appreciate about her? You could also try a poem. How about an acrostic poem? Not sure what that is, here’s an example:

Mom

M-y mother is always a person I can talk to when I’m having a bad day

O-ther things don’t keep her from me

M-ust be the best mom in the world!

Happy Mother’s Day to all of you the mothers out there :)

Easter can give us so many things to write about. Here are some ideas:

Write about your Easter weekend. Think about the 5 Ws (who, what, when, where and how).

Write about what Easter means to you.

Write about what Easter means around the world. Who celebrates Easter and why?

Happy Easter everyone!

We might get some snow on Friday. Doesn’t that seem a little late in the year for us to be getting snow?? Write a journal entry about you thoughts on spring time snow or write a story imagining it snows on a warm sunny day. What would everyone do?

Have fun writing!

Last week we thought about baby animals being born in the spring. Let’s write another story about a baby animal. You can choose the same baby animal or a new animal.

Write a story about a baby animal finding a new friend. Who would it be? And how would they meet? Would they be the same animals or different, or maybe the friend isn’t an animal at all. Think about the fun the two new friends can have. Have fun writing!

Today let’s think about all of the baby animals being born in the spring. Take a moment to brainstorm the types of baby animals you might see in the spring. Think about the farm, the forest and even your back yard.

Choose one baby animal to write a story about. Imagine that the baby animal has wandered away from it’s home. Write a story about the adventure the baby animal has finding it’s way back home. Try to include as much describing words as you can!

It is still a little cold and windy but spring is here! The snow is gone, the birds are chirping and the flowers are starting to peak out. Take some time to observe the beginning of spring. Smell the air, look and listen at all of the new activities on the ground and in the air. Then let that inspire your writing!

Try to write a haiku poem. A haiku poem is a traditional Japanese poem that consists of three lines. The first line has 5 syllables, the second line has 7 syllables and the third and last line has 5 syllables. If you can’t remember what a syllable is or how to count it, ask you mom or dad!

Remember, have fun with your writing!

Reading responses are activities that your child can do after reading to help them think about what they just read. It helps them think about their own reading and it helps them think about what they are reading! Plus it may be a great opportunity for you to connect writing with reading. Here is a website that I came across with some good printables for reading responses.
